UDUPI: Congress candidate Jayaprakash Hegde said the Udupi-Chikmagalur bypoll win was expected. “People wanted a change. United efforts by our workers and leaders yielded good results. People votes for honesty. This is just a beginning. In future too people with good caliber will have a chance, “Hegde said.He added that the JD (S) candidate Bhojegowda would have won the election if he had not divided the secular votes.Replying to press persons Hegde said the issues relating to Costal Regulation Zone norms affecting the people, demand for more railway facilities and the inconvenience caused by four lining of National Highway would be his priorities as a Member of Parliament and he would do his best for people. He added that he was working on the issues concerning the areca and coffee growers of Chikmagalur.On Naxal menace in the region, Hegde said, “If the state government implements the programmes announced in the name of Naxal package there would not be much problem.” J P Hegde’s daughter Divya described the election as a Dharmayuddha. “The people voted for good virtues. It is the victory of honesty against false propaganda and the Opposition cheating the voters,” said Divya, a science graduate from the USA.
