Director Nag Ashwin’s much-anticipated film Kalki 2898 AD has set the cash registers ringing at the box office and has charmed the viewers with its many aspects. According to Local 18 Telugu, however, this film has also received criticism from some sections of the audience, including the Vedic scholar Kandukuri Balasubramanya Sharma. The Vedic scholar had said that the Kalki 2898’s storyline and narration are far different from the facts. The film does not reflect reality. According to the Vedic scholar, the end of Kali Yuga will not happen just anytime soon. Pandit Balasubramanya said that we are living in the early years of the Kali Yuga and it will take a few thousand years for it to end.
According to the Vedic Scholar, at the end of Kali Yuga, the Dharma will be destroyed, as well as yagnas and yagas will be stopped. Yagas and yagnas are forms of worship that the Vedas prescribe for human beings. The Gita refers to yagnas as the wish-fulfilling mythical cow Kamadenu. Also, according to Pandit Balasubramanya, natural disasters will occur on the earth. The Vedic scholar said that we are seeing only one per cent of all the forthcoming disasters that will be happening in the future. Pandit Balasubramanya said that Kalki 2898 AD should be merely enjoyed for entertainment purposes. He said the audience should not feel that the film is based on factual research.
Besides Pandit Balasubramanya, many experts and Vedic scholars have cast aspersions on many scenes in Kalki 2898 AD. These include incidents like Arjuna’s conversation with Karna in Mahabharata, as well as Ashwathama and Karna’s conversation, etc. Scholars have doubted whether these scenes in the film are fictional or happened in reality.
Kalki 2898 AD stars Prabhas, Deepika Padukone, Amitabh Bachchan, Kamal Haasan and others in the lead roles. Dulquer Salmaan, SS Rajamouli, Vijay Deverakonda, Ram Gopal Varma and Mrunal Thakur also make special appearances in the film. A pan India film, Kalki 2898 AD has crossed the Rs 700 crore mark at the box office, making Rs 725 crore.
