Everyone expected the tenth seeded Chilean to provide some resistance, and he did initially, leading 5-4 in the first set. But Federer levelled, and led 6-5.
The 10th seed pushed it to a tie-break. But the experienced Federer took away the first set. After that, the Chilean playing in his first Grand Slam final did not really recover.
Federer romped ahead to win the second 6-4. And even as the third set began in similar fashion with Federer and Gonzalez winning their service games, the top seed was simply unbeatable, running away with the third 6-4 to win his 10th career Grand Slam title.
