THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Even as the political moves of V S Achuthanandan born out of the intense factionalism in the CPM are keenly watched and discussed, political parties in the non-LDF camp seem to be not much enthused to extend their support beyond a limit. KPCC president Ramesh Chennithala was guarded in his comments on the latest developments. “Achuthanandan is a seasoned politician. Let him take a clear stance,” he commented. Asked whether the Congress will stand by its earlier stance that it will give political protection to those who quit the CPM, Ramesh replied “Wait and see.” “Its true that a small group among the office-bearers at the grassroots level is supportive of Achuthanandan and therefore he can if needed announce a new outfit within a short time. But it is another fact that he will never come out of the CPM and will only strive to fortify his position in the party. Everyone knows his character,’’ said CMP state secretary K R Aravindakshan. “Achuthanandan may not face the hurdles like us when M V Raghavan was forced to part ways with the CPM. Ours was a sudden move in 1986. Achuthanandan was involved in factional fight in the party for quite some time,” he said. The Janadhipathya Samrakshana Samithi (JSS) is also not much enamoured of the moves of Achuthanandan. Time is not yet ripe to comment on the developments in the CPM, JSS state working president A N Rajan Babu said. Janata Dal state secretary general Varghese George said that political realignments could not be ruled out if issues in the CPM aggravate further and lead to a split in the party.
