BANGALORE: Transport and Home Minister R Ashok stated that the state government was ready to provide security for chief engineer of Technical Vigilance Committee Cell (TVCC), after miscreants barged into the officer’s chambers and threatened to burn files pertaining to the multi-crore scam. When the incident was brought to his notice, the minister was affirmative and said the government was ready to provide security to N Devaraj, Chief Engineer, TVCC. On May 21, unidentified miscreants gained entry into the office of Devaraj, and demanded him to submit a report favouring them. After this incident, Devaraj has asked for the installation of CCTV cameras in his chamber for ‘security reasons.’Devaraj heads the TVCC which has unearthed several scams in the BBMP, including the recent multicrore bogus bill scam. The committee had also revealed the street light scam recently. Presently, TVCC was looking at the allotment of transferable development rights (TDR), in a road widening project in Bommanahalli zone. Speaking to reporters on Thursday, Devaraj said, on May 21 a gang of five to six miscreants had barged into his office when the TDR scam probe was almost done and the report was in its final stages. “The miscreants warned me against submitting the report. They threatened that if I did not give the report in their favour, they would burn the files related to the TDR scam report,” he said. Now, Devaraj has written to the BBMP special commissioner to install CCTV cameras in his chamber. This, according to him will keep a record of those entering his office. However, Devaraj clarified that there was no threat to his life.
