Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar on Monday presented TSR Awards to senior journalists G N Ranganath Rao (2010), former associate editor of Kannada newspaper Prajavani and Garudanagiri Nagaraj, former special correspondent of Kannada Prabha (2011) in recognition of their services to journalism at a programme organised by the Information Department.
Speaking on the occasion, he said, “Today, the electronic media runs behind headlines to stick to deadlines.
Sometimes, the programme we are attending would not even have started and yet the mediapersons ask for a comment on the event.
There have been so many incidents in the past where officials have been misquoted and their actions have been misinterpreted.
There is so much sensationalism (in media) which is not productive at all.
” Speaking on the occasion, Garudanagiri Nagaraj appealed to the Chief Minister to look into filling up the position of the Chairman of the Media Academy which is lying vacant for the last nine months.
The other media awardees like Shivasharanappa Wali demanded that the advertising policy should be revised so as to favour small and medium media houses.
The Department of Publicity and Information has also been instructed to work on documentaries on the lives of these veterans to educate young journalists.

Editor of Uttara Karnataka, a publication from Belgaum, Shivasharanappa Wali received the Mohare Hanumantharaya Journalism Award for the year 2010 and M B Desai, founder editor of Lokadarshana, another publication from Belgaum, received the honour for 2011.
They all received `1 lakh in cash.
The organisers of the programme had replaced flower bouquets with ornamental saplings for each guest and awardee.
For the year 2010, the developmental journalism award went to Ravindra Bhat of Prajavani, and K V Parmesh, associate editor of Samyukta Karnataka received the honour for the year 2011.
Columnist and Assistant Editor of Adike Patrike (published from Puttur, Dakshina Karnataka), Narayana Karanta Parajay won the best environmental journalism award for 2010.
The coverage of the fire which broke out at the Nagarahole won Ajjamada Ramesh Kuttappa the Environmental journalism award for 2011.
These awardees also received `50,000 in cash.
Winners for these awards were chosen by a committee headed by former Upa Lokayukta Justice G P Shivaprakash.
