MYSORE: A three-and-a-half-year old leopard succumbed to injuries at Nagarahole National Park limits on Sunday.According to the tribals, the leopardess took shelter at B Girijana Haadi Samudaya Bhavan in Neralakuppe, near Hanagodu in Hunsur taluk on Saturday night.She was too weak to hunt due to the wounds, as she had fallen into a trap set by poachers. Tribals who heard her cry offered water and informed the forest authorities who reached the spot on Sunday, but when it was too late.According to veterinary experts, she died due to starvation.The right hind leg was injured by the snare.Something fishy with officials?Wildlife expert PM Muththanna suspected the authorities for cremating the leopardess in a hurry without following the guidelines of National Tiger Conservation Authority.Leopard falls under Schedule- I category of animals, he said.
