THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The two-day 38th state conference of  Kerala State Transport Drivers Union will be held at the Priyadarshini auditorium here from October 14. The conference will also mark the beginning of the year-long golden jubilee celebrations of the inception of the union, which was founded in 1961.  Union state general secretary R Ayyappan, working president Sunny Thomas and other office-bearers told reporters here on Wednesday that the conference would begin with a rally on Friday morning, which will begin from Thampanoor and culminate at the conference venue. Chief Minister Oommen Chandy will inaugurate the conference at 11.30 a.m. Finance Minister K M Mani will launch the golden jubilee logo on the occasion. Transport Minister V S Sivakumar will deliver the keynote address. Union general secretary R Ayyappan will preside over the inaugural function. Deputy Speaker N Sakthan, MLAs K Muraleedharan and M V Sreyamskumar, Thampanoor Ravi, Transport Commissioner T P Senkumar, KSRTC CMD Alexander K Luke, general manager G Venugopal and others will address the session. Gold medals for meritorious children of  union members, who had scored high marks in the SSLC exams, will be distributed at the session.  A trade union meet will be held in the afternoon which will be followed by delegates’ session from evening. KPCC president Ramesh Chennithala will inaugurate the valedictory meet on Saturday.  V D Satheesan MLA will deliver the keynote address. Discussion on the organisational report and resolutions as well as election of office-bearers of the union will be held on the second day.
