New Delhi: Cold wave continues to sweep through North India with the minimum temperature in Srinagar at minus three degrees Celsius. Shimla is freezing at minus five degrees Celsius.
The cold has intensified in Punjab as well with Amritsar recorded three degrees Celsius while Chandigarh was six degrees Celsius.
Uttar Pradesh, which has reported 20 more cold-related deaths, remains in the grip of cold wave. The minimum in Lucknow on Tuesday was eight degrees Celsius.
Many areas of North Indian including Delhi were engulfed with dense fog since late Tuesday night hitting train services.
The capital's minimum temperature fell to 5.6 degree Celsius from Tuesday's 9.3 degrees due to icy winds blowing from the Himalayas.
However, visibility at Delhi airport was not hampered much. Visibility was 700 metres on Runway 29 but on Runway 28 it was 1900 metres.
There have been no flight delays or cancellations on Wednesday.
But train passengers are not lucky as at least 25 Delhi-bound trains are running behind schedule, three have been rescheduled and four stand cancelled.
The cancelled trains include Sitamarhi-bound Lichchavi Express and Gaya-bound Mahabodhi Express. Bhopal Shatabdi, Puri Express and Taj Express were rescheduled while over two dozen trains were running late, some by five to 10 hours.
Cancelled trains:
4006 Lichchavi Express: New Delhi-Sitamarhi, 2398 Mahabodhi Express: New Delhi-GAYA, 4512 Nauchandi Express: Saharanpur-Allahabad, 4212 Unchahar Express: Chandigarh-Allahabad.
