Sources said an existing conflict between two factions in the DMK could be the reason behind the incident...

CUDDALORE: After two groups of DMK men fought during an agitation against petrol price rise on Wednesday, a banner wishing the DMK patriarch M Karunanidhi for his 89th birthday was torn by unidentified persons on Wednesday night, creating furor among DMK members in the town on Thursday.DMK members Velmurugan of Devanampattinam and Sivanandham of Puthupalayam had erected the banner praising Karunanidhi ahead of his birthday.DMK cadre were infuriated when they found out that the banner had been torn and they alleged that it was because of the conflict within the party. It may be recalled that commotion erupted during DMK’s agitation on Wednesday when supporters of former minister M R K Paneer Selvam and MLA Saba Rajendran clashed.A DMK man, who holds a key post, requesting anonymity said, “It was certainly not done either by the members of other political parties or by the supporters of Saba Rajendran. It might have been done by the members of the same group because of envy over other’s growth. Those who set up the banner had not put the picture of a person, who holds a post in the party’s youth wing, on the banner. Angered by this, that person’s supporters tore the banner.”It is already apparent that there is an existing conflict between the supporters of Paneer Selvam and Rajendran. Now, conflict among even the members of one group, who are reportedly not supporters of Saba Rajendran, has come to light.
