TGO flays government on health card talks

Taking serious exception to holding a meeting with a few selected employee unions, that too from the regions other than Telangana, on health cards for government employees, the Telangana Gazetted Officers Association (TGO) has warned the government of severe consequences if the trend continues.

Principal secretary (health) K Ratna Kishore had held a meeting with some employee unions, including TNGO from Telangana. However, a majority of the other unions, who too are stakeholders in the programme, were not invited. The meeting was attended by representatives of several insurance companies.

When the issue was brought to the notice of the principal secretary, he abruptly concluded the meeting mid-way so that it would not become an issue.

Expressing their objection to such meetings, TGO president V Srinivas Goud told mediaperosns here on Thursday that conducting such meetings was nothing but cheating Telagnana employees. ‘’It is a matter of our hard-earned money and our health, and the decision on it should be ours. How can one simply conduct a meeting with a select few, ignoring important associations from a particular region?’’

When lack of proper health amenities like Arogyasri for government employees was brought to his notice, former chief minister YS Rajasekhara Reddy announced a similar scheme for government employees. But after his untimely demise the issue never moved forward. ‘’When we brought the issue to the notice of top officials and were planning an agitation on the issue, chief minister N.Kiran Kumar Reddy intervened and announced a health scheme for government employees a couple of days ago. Officials, instead of consulting all unions, conducted a meeting with a select few which is not acceptable,’’ he said and threatened to launch an agitation if such incidents recurred.
