Peshawar: Terrorists on Sunday blew up a government school for girls in Pakistan's restive tribal agency near the Afghan border, demolishing three classrooms.
The terrorists blew up the school using explosives in Bezoot area of Lower Orakzai Agency -- one of the Federally Administered Tribal Areas of Pakistan. However, no loss of life was reported.
Terrorists have often targeted schools in Pakistan's volatile tribal areas. Dozens of schools have been blown up in the past in various areas of Orakzai Agency, considered a stronghold of terrorists.
On December 16, Taliban gunmen stormed into an army-run school in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province's capital Peshawar and killed 150 people, most of them children. It was the most horrific assault in Pakistan's history.
In a separate attack by militants, at least three members of a peace committee were killed and five others injured in Tira valley of Khyber Agency on Sunday.
The terrorists detonated an improvised explosive device (IED) inside the 'Aman Lashkar' compound.
Meanwhile, the Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) on Sunday foiled a terrorist plot by defusing six bombs in Peshawar. The BDS officials defused the bombs found from a canal in Ghaziabad area. A manhunt has been launched to arrest those involved in the failed plot.
In view of the attack on the school in Peshawar, security has been tightened in the provincial capital. Police claimed to have arrested at least 59 suspects including 35 illegal Afghan immigrants during a search operation.
