New Delhi: CNN-IBN has been able to put together a timeline of how the attack at the Taj Mahal Palace hotel has played out so far.
9:30 pm: Armed men entered the 22-story hotel at around 9.30 pm last night and took people hostage. The men asked for people carrying American and British passports. A series of loud explosions was heard. Soon after, the Anti Terrorism Squad entered the hotel to flush out the terrorists.
2 am: At around 2 am, six explosions were heard from inside the hotel, and a fire broke out in a portion of the building soon after. At around 5 am, three terrorists were killed in a gun battle inside the hotel.
6:30: Around an hour and a half later, a fresh fire broke out. Clouds of black smoke rose from the historic monument, but the fire department managed to bring the blaze under control from outside.
8:45: At around 8:45 am, gunfire was heard from inside the hotel again. Around 45 people have reportedly been taken hostage on the roof of the hotel by 5 terrorists. It is unclear how many people are still stranded inside the hotel. NSG commandos are carrying out an operation inside the hotel.
