Team India or Olympic mania?
Team India or Olympic mania?
So your evenings have been free ever since the IPL ended and the Indian cricket team got to take a (well-deserved?) break. But with the Indian-Sri Lanka ODI series clashing A head-on with a slew of Olympic events in which Indians arent doing too shabbily, which channel are you watching every day after work? Janane Venkatraman wondered aloud if Chennaiites were rooting for Mahesh Bhupathi or Mahendra Singh Dhoni and got a few interesting answers...

I’d rather watch the Olympics. Cricketers always keep playing one match or another. India at the Olympics is something different. It comes once in four years. If we give the sports persons at the Olympics at least half the support we give cricketers, it will encourage them so much. I’m an ardent cricket fan, but the I feel even the hype of cricket has gone overboard.

Olympics! One, because I hate cricket. And two, because the Olympics comes once in four years. It’s a battle between countries and the number of medals you rack up, unlike cricket. Athletes strive harder to add to the tally of your country. They put in more effort, so it has more value, as well.

Olympics definitely, because I'm so bored of cricket! India's been playing way too much cricket these days, so much so that it's become commonplace. India's just got a bronze in the Olympics and they're just starting their tally. We have a great contingent with extremely talented sports people. I'm sure they'll rack up the medals.

I'd watch cricket. Indians have always had a poor show at the Olympics, so there's no motivation for me to watch it. I get no kick out of it. Now cricket means I'm assured of entertainment for a day. I'm looking at unwinding after a long day at work, relaxing myself.

I’d rather watch Olympics. We can always catch up on the match during highlights or stream it later. You’ll have umpteen number of ways to catch it later on. But when the whole country’s going to the Olympics, that’s a huge thing. The sheer magnitude and excitement of it would make people want to watch it. What more do you want?

Cricket all the way! It’s more exciting. Olympics is slow. And the sports are obscure. It’s not really my thing. If I get together with a bunch of friends and add in some popcorn and settle down to watch the match, my entertainment for the day is assured. I’d definitely pick the Ind-SL cricket match over the Olympics.

I’d watch neither. Olympics is boring and cricket is slowly inching there. I’m not sure I’m interested in watching  obscure sports as well. I’d stay away from both.

What's your reaction?
