NAGERCOIL: A 25-year-old woman teacher, who underwent an operation for sinus problem in a private hospital, died under mysterious circumstances at Nagercoil on Friday. Her death has raised serious questions regarding treatment being given in private hospitals.C S Kani Anbarasi, was working as a Computer Science teacher in a private school in Madathattuvilai. Her father Chella Thurai said that Kani was suffering from severe headache for few days and was treated by an ENT specialist in Nagercoil. On July 7, Kani went to the specialist’s hospital who said that Kani had to undergo an operation in the nose to remove the phlegm. The doctor fixed the operation date on Friday. “The operation finally began at around 3 pm,” Thurai said.Thurai further said that initially, the doctor had told them that the operation was a minor one and that it would take about an hour to finish. But, it lasted for more than two hours.Meanwhile, at around 5 pm, Kani was rushed to another private hospital in an ambulance accompanied by the medical staff. Thurai said the staff told him that Kani was being shifted to another private hospital for better treatment. “We also went with them and at around 5.15 pm,” he said.On reaching that hospital, Kani was taken to the ICU. “After one hour, the doctors at the hospital called me and said that my daughter was brought dead. If my daughter was already dead, why couldn’t they have said that earlier? Why did they take more than an hour to inform that?,” asked Thurai. The family refused to receive the body from the hospital. Police pacified Kani’s relatives and took the body to Kanyakumari GH for postmortem.
