New Delhi: Pune continues to be the worst affected by H1N1 Influenza A (swine flu) with three more people succumbing to the deadly viral disease in the city on Tuesday.
With Kerala reporting its first death due to swine flu and one more death being reported from Mumbai and Vadodara in Gujarat, the death toll due to the disease has reached 12.
In Pune alone six people have died with 35-five-year-old Sanjay Mistry becoming the latest victim.
Mistry died in Sassoon Hospital, Pune. He was earlier admitted in Veeramai hospital and was on the ventilator.
On Sunday night, he was shifted to Sassoon Hospital and was said to be in critical condition. He also had fever and throat infection.
Kerala reported its first death from swine flu when 35-year-old Wilson died at Kerala Institute of Medical Sciences in Thiruvananthapuram.
Wilson, a Gulf returnee who had recently travelled to Tamil Nadu, was admitted to the hospital six days back with high fever, doctors said.
He had come to Thiruvananthapuram by train via Chennai and was under treatment for swine flu for the past three days. He was also suffering from pneumonia.
"A 35-year-old man died in KIMS Hospital due to swine flu. It is very unfortunate. This person came via Chennai by train. Another case in Kochi is also critical. We have taken very serious steps. This patient was under observation of nodal officer. We are checking with Railways for the details who were the others travelling with him," said Kerala Health and Social Welfare Minister PK Sreemathi..
Earlier on Tuesday three more people - one each in Pune, Vadodara, Mumbai - died of swine flu taking the death toll into double digits.
Arya Murale, just seven years old, died at the SSG Hospital in Vadodra, Gujarat and became the second victim of the disease in the state.
Murale was brought in for treatment on August 7, said Health Minister Jaynarayan Vyas, adding that she was a resident of Vadodara and had not travelled abroad.
"The girl had no history of how she contracted the virus," the minister said. The girl's health had been showing some signs of improvement Sunday but deteriorated Monday night. NRI Pravin Patel died of swine flu in a government hospital on Sunday.
Sayada Doshiwala, a 63-year-old woman, died of swine flu in Maharashtra’s Thane district.
Doshiwala was brought to Mumbai's Noor Hospital in Byculla five days ago for treatment and was put on life support on Monday night after her condition worsened.
"The deceased was from Thane and had been brought to Mumbai for treatment," Additional Municipal Commissioner Manisha Mhaiskar told IANS.
