Chennai: One of the most sought-after actors for movies with novel plots, his connectivity with his roles and his adaptability and versatility makes acting look very easy. Meet Suriya, who is back with his '7th Sense' to woo the audience.
"The movie had a very novel concept which interested me. Murugadoss worked on it for one year and I think it shaped up well. I feel very lucky to perform a role of a martial arts teacher, it is just great," he says on the movie and his role in it.
He further adds, "And just like 'Ghajini', all the actors in the movie share the same screen space, which is important. We had a lot of debates even after 'Ghajini' on changing the climax or changing a few scenes, but then yes, 'Ghajini' was meant to be like that and we all remember 'Ghajini' for what it is. People are happy with the kind of characters I have played and the concept of Bodhi Dharma in the movie is very informative."
Suriya is very popular for his multiple looks in his movies. Asked for the reason behind working on his looks, he replies, "I don’t want to look like Suriya in all my movies. It is very important for an actor to be suitable for the kind of roles he chooses and I love working on them every time. In ‘7th Sense’ too, it’s the same thing."
'7aum Arivu', the Tamil version of '7th Sense', was released simultaneously in Tamil Nadu.
Commenting on it, Suriya says, "Connectivity is definitely better with the Tamil audience because of the story plot which takes place in Kanjeepuram, which is a part of Tamil Nadu. I guess bilingual films definitely do well at the box office. And because audience now is more appreciative, it is always nice that the producers release them in different languages."
Brushing aside criticism of '7th Sense', he points out, "You know, one person looks at the moon and says it is so white and bright, whereas, the other one looks at it and says that there are scars on the moon. Both are right in their own way, it is just different perceptions."
On signing movies back-to-back, Suriya says, "I don’t want to do films, just for the sake of doing films. I want this movie to be remembered by the audience. And if there are great scripts then, I will definitely take them up."
His upcoming movie is being directed by KV Anand and he is paired opposite Kajal Agarwal, which will be set for release by next summer. "For now I can only reveal so much about the movie. Once we are set, there is so much to discuss about the movie. If there is an answer to what’s next? It is my upcoming movie," Suriya quips.
Ask for his top five favourite movies, he replies, "I would definitely say 'Ghajini', 'Kakka Kakka' and 'Sivaputrudu', and I’m still saving the rest for some more."
On acting in movies with his brother Karthi, Suriya says, "If the script demands, I surely will. But as of now, there are no plans of acting with Karthi."
Mentioning about the Tollywood industry, he says, "Tollywood is doing really good and I like most of the movies, like ‘Magadheera’. And coming to actors, all are my favourites."
Suriya, Shruti Haasan, Sri Hari and producer Subramaniam were in Hyderabad for the success meet of '7th Sense' which was held on Tuesday.
