BANGALORE:  The Zoo Authority of Karnataka is coming up with a superspeciality veterinary hospital in the premises of the Bannerghatta Biological Park (BBP). The hospital aims at providing quicker treatment for animals and relief for the authorities at the park.The inspection for the purpose has been completed and the plot of land (about 4,000 sq feet) next to the rescue centre in the BBP premises has been identified, Jaykumar M N, Member Secretary, Zoo Authority of Karnataka and Additional Principal Chief Conservator of Forests, said."The structural engineering and drawing plans which are being prepared by the Biodiversity Conservation of India Limited keeping in mind the ecofriendly nature will be completed in another five days. Once it is completed, we will proceed with the project" he added.Speaking to Express about the project, Jaykumar said, "The hospital's central complex in the ground floor would have facilities like examination rooms, a highly equipped operation theatre, Xray room, medical gas facility, recovery room, pantry and a postmortem room. The first floor will consist of a hitech laboratory and DNA sampling unit. Besides, an attached unit for inpatients separately for carnivorous and herbivorous animals are also in the plans."The existing veterinary unit was useful only for minor treatments. For serious ailments,the animals had to be taken to the Veterinary Hospital at Hebbal. "With the new upcoming facilities all tests can be done under one roof," he added."This superspeciality veterinary hospital at BBP, with all required facilities foranimal care available under one roof, once completed will be one of its kind in the country," Jayakumar gave details.
