Sugarcane mill guard allegedly open fires during clash, farmer shot dead
A sugarcane farmer was shot dead when a guard of a sugar mill allegedly opened fire during a clash over weighing of the cash crop in Purkazi area of the district on Wednesday.

A sugarcane farmer was shot dead when a guard of a sugar mill allegedly opened fire during a clash over weighing of the cash crop in Purkazi area of the district on Wednesday.

An argument between farmers and officials of the sugar mill over weighing of the sugarcane took an ugly turn on Wednesday afternoon in Khai Kheri village, police said.

Alleging discrepancy in weighing, farmers confronted the officials which led to the heated argument.

Soon a clash erupted and a guard opened fire leading to the death a farmer, Prahlad Singh. A guard was also injured in the clash.

Agitated farmers blocked the Delhi-Dehradun national highway and put the farmer's body on the road.

Later, senior police officials reached the spot and pacified the farmers and got the highway cleared.

A case against three mill officials, including chief security guard of the mill Kuldeep Tyagi, has been registered, police said.

Heavy police force have been deployed in the area.

Meanwhile, mill owners have announced a compensation of Rs 15 lakh to the next kin of the deceased farmer.
