BANGALORE: Infosys chief mentor NR Narayana Murthy was felicitated with the Mother Teresa Memorial Award 2011 by Indian Development Foundation (IDF) which was formerly known as Indian Leprosy foundation.Addressing the gathering he said,  “Every year I travel to 50 to 60 countries and as and when I get the opportunity to interact with youngsters in other countries, I feel that our youngsters are as smart and intellectual as the ones in Western countries. However, the difference comes, when I meet forty year old people and unfortunately, I do not find same level of commitment, discipline, enthusiasm among Indian adults. I find a sense of fatalism and empathy among those who have completed their youth’’. He said that  we have to be true role models for youngsters.Emphasising on the need of a better society he further added, “On one hand, children have a decent access to health care, nutrition and education in our country, while on the other hand 700 to 800 million people are among those who live in poverty. Though the government is striving hard to make their lives better but it does not do this job alone and this is when the civil society can play a pivotal role. Corporates and institutions can be become a supporting hand to help the government and this is the only we can create a better India.”Dr P Satish Chandra, director NIMHANS said, “In India Narayana Murthy is described as an Indian icon. His contribution are not limited to IT and BT but he has transformed Indian outlook in the global village. Among other present at the function were Dr ARK Pillai, founder president IDF,  Prof Pankaj Chandra, director Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore Dr H Sudershan, secretary IDF.
