CHENNAI: Carva, started by popular violinist CA Rajasekar in 2000, teaches violin to students of all ages. Rajasekar was teaching violin even before this idea of an academy struck him. Divya, an IT professional who is learning under him for the past two-and-a-half years says, “He is not only a teacher, but also a well-wisher to many of us.” And Rajasekar always takes his students to various violin kutcheris not only in Chennai, but outstations too. Talking about outstation concerts, Shreya, a class X  student, says, “My most memorable moment in Carva was when I played in front on Thyagarajar Samadhi in Thiruvaiyar for the first time.’’ These students are very lucky to get such an opportunity to play the violin where great vidwans have rendered their performances. The power of teaching has spread far off in many countries outside India too. Many people are so awed by the teaching here that they have started to learn violin through online classes which Rajasekar has started taking recently. The online classes are a big boon to the people who are living abroad and feeling they have missed a shot at violin. Practice seems to be the mantra of the students of Carva. “Sir always encourages us to play in many programmes but he makes sure that we all get enough practice. For him, without practice, one cannot play a single tune without any mistake,’’ says Vishwesh. Not only students, even parents seem to be impressed by the way he approaches his students. Their performances can be seen at the annual Carva programme this year at Mahodhya Hall. The programme will begin at 9.3oam on September 4, Sunday. People can also watch the programme online at www.carvatrust.org.
