KANNUR: Normal life in the district here was affected as a result of the motor vehicle strike organised by the Motor Vehicle Workers Co-ordination committee formed by the Left trade unions on Saturday.The functioning of government offices, educational institutions and commercial establishments came to a standstill as a result of the strike. As the private buses, autorickshaws and taxis kept off the roads, a majority of the employees couldn’t reach offices. The offices at the Civil Station wore a deserted look. The KSRTC operated some services but they failed to meet the travel requirements of the people. The vehicle strike also hit the functioning of shops and commercial establishments. Though autorickshaws and taxis remained off the roads, private vehicles and two-wheelers were allowed to ply.Supporters of the stir blocked the national highway at Payyanur. They also blocked KSRTC buses operating service from the Payyanur depot. Supporters of the vehicle strike took out a demonstration in the town on Saturday morning.
