BALASORE: Tension ran high at the Basta Government Hospital in Balasore district on Monday following delivery of stillborn child. Irate locals gheraoed the hospital demanding action against the erring doctor.Sources said, Somima Bibi (28) of Bidyadharpur village was under the supervision of a doctor of the hospital since initial stages of pregnancy. She was rushed to Basta hospital when she complained of labour pains two days back. Her husband Mir Tahid Alli said the doctor did not respond despite his personal visit to his official quarter. “As his peon informed that the doctor was unwell we consulted another doctor. The second doctor gave her some injections and asked us to take her home saying that the delivery will be delayed,” Alli said. He said a few hours later, Somima said the movement of the baby in the womb had stopped. “Since it was night, we took her to the doctor next day. He advised us to go for an ultra sound which revealed that the baby had already died,” Alli said. He further alleged that the doctor did not inform them that the baby had died in the womb and instead, referred Somima to the District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) citing that the size of the baby had increased and the Caesarian not possible at Basta. At the DHH, doctors informed the couple that the baby had already died in the womb and the ultra sound report made at Basta had mentioned that. While Somima is undergoing treatment at the DHH, her family members and locals have demanded action against both the doctors. They have sent a written complaint to the CDMO and the District Collector alleging negligence by the two attending doctors. While both the doctors denied any negligence, CDMO Iqbal Ahmmad said he would inquire into it.
