KOCHI: The Kochi Corporation has submitted before the Kerala High Court that it would maintain status quo at Mundamveli where it had started to fill marshy land to construct a sewage treatment plant under the Kerala State Urban Development Project (KSUDP). The Division Bench comprising Chief Justice J Chelameswar and Justice Antony Dominic recorded the submission of the Corporation and granted ten days to file a statement. The Corporation made the submission on a public interest litigation filed by Majeendran and T T Thampy, two local residents, against the massive filling of ecologically sensitive marshy land at Mundamveli that consists of mangrove and a host of other species. The Corporation had cut mangrove at the site to fill the land.
