Status quo on Satyam Tax Assessment

HYDERABAD: A two-judge vacation bench of the High Court on Thursday refused to modify an earlier order of status quo granted in favour of Satyam Computers with regard to tax assessment made by authorities for 2007-2008.The revenue department had moved a petition seeking permission for finalisation of the assessment before the Dispute Resolution Panel. The company had earlier moved the court challenging reference of the assessment to a special audit. The court had then ordered maintenance of status quo.In its present application, the department sought permission to complete the assessment for 2007-2008 on the ground that it would otherwise be barred by limitation.
