Srilakshmi may move court for admission to special ward in NIMS

Refusing to undergo an operation for sciatic nerve pain in the general ward of the Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS), suspended IAS officer Y Srilakshmi on Saturday reportedly contemplated moving the court for permission to undergo the operation in a special ward at the hospital.

“For the last two days, she has been dependent on painkillers for relief from sciatic nerve pain,” a source said. The authorities of the Chanchalguda prison, where she is currently lodged, claim that Srilakshmi is deliberately postponing her operation because she was asked to get admitted to the general ward. “She intends to approach the court for provision of a special ward in the NIMS,” a jail official said.

“She has been insisting that we arrange a special ward for the operation,” a surgeon said.

After going through the reports of the medical tests conducted recently, NIMS doctors suggested an immediate operation for her. However, she reportedly asked the Chanchalguda jail officials to take her back to her cell.

Doctors who treated Srilakshmi in the Osmania general hospital earlier had recommended an immediate operation on her left leg, where she is experiencing severe pain, which if delayed, could worsen her condition. “Still, she postponed the operation,” said a jail official.

Srilakshmi, who was arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in connection with the Obulapuram mining scam, has been suffering from severe sciatic nerve pain for the past few months.
