BANGALORE: A 23-year-old BE drop out, reportedly upset over failed relationship, made a futile attempt to end his life by jumping down from a building on Wednesday morning.Jaffar, a resident of Austin Town, who, in a bid to commit suicide jumped from the third floor of Museum Terrace, a residential apartment complex on Museum Road, sustained severe injuries. At around 8 am in the morning, the dejected lover entered the apartment in the pretext of painting the building. Taken by his reason, the security let him enter the apartment. Jaffar, on reaching the third floor, walked restlessly screaming in Hindi, that he would commit suicide as his girlfriend had ditched him. The residents of the apartment gathered in large numbers to witness what was going on. For about two hours, tension prevailed among the public, who anticipated his next move from the terrace. As he repeatedly threatened to commit suicide, the crowd soon informed the Cubbon Park police, who rushed to the spot. They tried to convince him to come down and on loudspeaker, assured to look into his problem. However, Jaffar did not pay heed to their request and continued speaking to himself. The police, as a safety measure, brought a blanket and spread it across to catch him, if he jumped. They also took the help of the local residents and a few policemen and went along with them to the terrace to bring him. On seeing them, Jaffar feared that he would be caught and without thinking, he ran and jumped off the building. Policemen holding the blanket could not reach him and Jaffar sustained severe injuries on his face, shoulder, hands and knees. The police immediately shifted him to a hospital and he has been kept in ICU. His condition is said to be out of danger. Investigations revealed that, he was a BE student at a college on Bannerghatta Road and was in love with a girl studying in the same college since three years. Allegedly, he was very upset and had become mentally imbalanced, after the relationship had ended.“He had stopped going to college since then. On Tuesday afternoon, he had left home and was engaged in quarrel with some persons. The Pulikeshinagar police took him to police station and had released him later. He had not returned home and had come to the apartment to end his life. It is also suspected that he created nuisance in front of his ex-girl friend’s residence before attempting suicide,” the police added. His father Javed is a contractor. Cubbon Park police have registered a case and are investigating.
