BANGALORE: IAS officers of the rank of Principal Secretaries of various departments in the Vidhana Soudha, have received threats through email from a person, who claims to be the deputy chief of a terrorist organisation, stating that they will be finished off within 48 hours.Sanjeev Kumar, Principal Secretary of Planning, Programme and Monitoring Department and Statistics, has received such a  terror mail and has registered a case with the Cyber Crime Police Station (CCPS) of Criminal Investigation Department.  Apart from Sanjeev, Ashok Kumar C Manoli, the Principal Secretary to the  Government of Information Technology & Bio Technology, Science & Technology, has also received such a mail and has filed a complaint with the Vidhana Soudha Police station.Since July 29, two more Principal Secretaries have also received such a mail, but no developments have been reported since, a police officer said. He also added that the email were traced to South Africa and they suspect that the miscreants used a proxy mail that makes it look like the mail was sent from South Africa.“But it is sure that the person who sent this mails is a technically-sound person,” the principal secretary said. Sources said that Sanjeev Kumar received an email in  his personal id, from one Al Khalaf Mahdi claiming to be the deputy chief of a terror group. Khalaf claimed that one of  Sanjeev’s  close friends has sent him to kill Sanjeev. Khalaf further said in the email that after a thorough verification he came to know that Sanjeev is innocent . “I have my agent, who is shadowing you, and is prepared to execute the assassination,” the alleged email claimed.Police said that the email further claimed that they knew his designation and his every move and said “Don’t take it as a joke and I will give you 48 hours ultimatum to revert back.”The Cyber Crime sleuths are investigating the case and suspect that it could be a prank mail sent by insiders to settle scores with their senior officials.
