BANGALORE: On the occasion of the 150th birth anniversary of scholar Sir M Visvesvaraya, the residents of HAL third stage inaugurated a park in his name. A bust of  M Visvesvaraya has also been installed in his memory. The residents of the area have formed a committee called the ‘HAL 3rd Stage Senior/Junior Welfare Forum’, consisting of senior residents, which will look after the needs of the residents. “This park itself has been a result of two years of work. The residents of the area  approached the local MLA to develop the park which has been under the BDA for the past six to seven years,” said Bacchegowda, one of the advisory members of the Forum. The inaugural function saw the presence of more than 300 people, including the residents and students of a nearby school. Unveiling of the statue, distribution of Sir MV’s book, Nanna Vrutti Jeevanada Nenapugalu (The Memoirs of my Working Life) and cultural programs were organised in the park premises. The park is spread over an area of five acres and a children’s play area is also under way. Free yoga classes for the women and the elderly, and other such activities will be conducted in the premises.“Development in all fields was started by Sir M Visvesvaraya. We are continuing what he practised. As a civil engineer, I will asphalt roads in the area. I have used the MLA funds to develop the park according to the needs of the residents,” said MLA Raghu.
