New Delhi: Left Front partner CPI on Saturday said that the land deals both in Singur and Nandigram were not transparent.
CPI alleged that the land deals at Singur for the Tata car project and at Nandigram for a chemical hub by Indonesia's Salim group issue had not been discussed at all at the Left Front.
"There should have been transparency in the land deals in both cases, but unfortunately, there was no transparency," CPI General Secretary A B Bardhan told PTI.
"We have said it publicly," Bardhan said but conceded that the Singur project could not be undone.
On Nandigram, where the land issue that triggered violence, Bardhan said to PTI, "We have made it clear that there should be discussion in the Left Front on Salim's projects.
The Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee government would be asked to inform the CPI about the proposals and the area required to be acquired, he added.
"Steps should be taken to implement the project after discussions while maintaining transparency."
Criticising the police for using force on farmers at Nandigram, the CPI general secretary said, "We regret the police repression. We are opposed to police action. The trouble started on the basis of a rumour on land notification."
