CHENNAI: Bold vintage designs with a touch of royalty seemed to be the audience favourite at the graduation show of The Institute of Design (IOD) on Saturday. The event, held at the Savera Hotel, was judged by designer Sidney Sladen and director Nagarajalingam, both connoisseurs in the business of style. And with each sequence of designs to hit the ramp, it was evident that this batch of graduating students, although a tad shy, alongside the models displaying their creations, were certainly not lacking in inspiration.Flowing velvet infused with batik prints and touch of lycra were the order of the day, in course of a rather popular ‘Royal Vintage’ theme. A collection titled ‘Panache’ displayed an interesting blend of base greys, breaking the monotony with bright bands of pink, blue and orange. Others included, semi formal attire ranging from the button up corporate jacket to the classic knee length dress. Also, a must mention was the experimental, ‘Collage’, a mix of textures as variant as jute, silk, lycra and skimming chiffon, coming together just as the name suggests. After 19 years in the fashion industry, IOD also launched their own label titled Black. Those of you who are yet to find that perfect little black dress to add to your wardrobe, you might want to look into this ensemble of designs.
