The attacker was asking a question over a sting operation, but it seemed his intention was to disrupt the press conference.

New Delhi: A shoe was hurled at Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal during a press conference at the Secretariat on Saturday by a man who claimed to be from a breakaway faction of the Aam aadmi Party.

Just as Kejriwal started speaking, the man interrupted him to ask a question about a sting operation on an alleged CNG sticker scam, and without waiting for an answer took of his shoe and hurled it at the Chief Minister.

The shoe missed the Chief Minister and landed on the table. The attacker was immediately whisked away by Secretariat officials and later questioned by police.

The man was later identified as Ved Sharma, who claimed who claimed he is from Aam Aadmi Sena, a breakaway group of AAP. It was not clear how he entered a press conference held inside the Secretariat.

Kejriwal and Delhi's transport minister Gopal Rai continued with their press conference on the odd-even traffic rationing scheme even after the incident.

The attack was immediately condemned by all political parties with the BJP and Congress saying stringent action should be taken against whoever was responsible.

"The time has come for all of us to come together and ensure that despite our political differences, such incidents are not repeated and the dignity of an elected office is respected," BJP spokesperson Nalin Kohli said.

Congress spokesperson PC Chacko condemned the incident even as he questioned why the "ínternal problems" in AAP were coming out in the open so often.

Transport minister Gopal Rai said," The odd-even scheme has been a success and so these people are frustrated and doing such things."

This is not the first time Kejriwal was attacked at a public function.

#In November 2013, a man who claimed to be a supporter of anti-corruption crusader Anna Hazare, attacked Kejriwal with black ink at a press conference.

# A similar attack took place in March 2014, when Arvind Kejriwal was campaigning for the Lok Sabha elections in Varanasi, some unidentified people threw ink at him. The agitated people even threw eggs at the open vehicle in which Kejriwal was travelling.

# During the 2014 Delhi Assembly election campaign, when Kejriwal was shaking hands with his supporters, a person punched him on his back and even tried to slap him.

# Kejriwal was attacked again during his road show in Sultanpuri area of Delhi. This time an auto driver Lali slapped him twice after garlanding him.

# Earlier this year, a woman identified as Bhavna Arora attacked Kejriwal with ink alleging a CNG scam in Delhi.
