The sewage drain on Infantry Road has been overflowing with dirty water for the past one week. The manhole cover is not placed properly as a result litres of the dirty water oozes out of it. The filthy water has overflown onto the roads. As a result, it has caused slush and filth all around. The worst affected are the pedestrians. It is very difficult to access the pavement due to the mess caused by the leaking drain water.Situated a few yards from Mantri Altius, the stench from the overflowing drain is overwhelming. “The dirty water has been over flowing for the last ten days. No one has done anything about it. The companies located near by have complained about the situation, but nothing has been done so far,” said a food vendor, whose stall is a few feet from the problem spot. The situation is bound to get worse with the onset of monsoons. What makes the situation worse is that next to the open manhole, garbage and filth has been dumped. The condition of road is also very poor. Apart from the slush, the road is broken near the turning, as a result vehicles find it hard to navigate.Though the residents and the companies around have complained about the problem, the Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board officials claim that they have not received any such complaint or information about an overflowing sewage drain. “I have no idea about the situation of the overflowing drain in that area. I can only comment on it once I have information about it. The leak could have also been caused due to the metro construction that is taking place near by,” said Sathish, executive engineer in charge of the area.Similar to the situation here, there are many drains that are over flowing in the city. Also, the BBMP had claimed that all the desilting work will be over before the onset of the monsoon, it still seems far from completion.
