New Delhi: A four-storey, under construction building collapsed in north east Delhi's New Usmanpur locality. Rescue operations are underway and 27 people have been pulled out of the debris.
More than 20 people were critically injured when the building collapsed and have been rushed to the Guru Teg Bahadur hospital.
Seven of the injured succumbed to their injuries at the hospital, sources said, adding the casualty figure may go up.
Eight fire tenders have rushed to the spot. Rescue personnel have said that close to 15 people are still feared trapped.
Most of the victims were labourers engaged in the construction of the building.
The police have yet to take against the owner of the building — which is an illegal structure — Deepak Garg. Garg is absconding.
A case of culpable homicide not amounting to murder, destruction to public property and negligence has been registered against Garg.
