SC Orders Unitech to Refund Home-Buyers Over Delayed Housing Projects
The Supreme Court has ordered Unitech to refund home-buyers over delayed housing projects in Noida including Unitech Burgundy and Unitech Exquisite.

The Supreme Court has ordered Unitech to refund home-buyers over delayed housing projects in Noida including Unitech Burgundy and Unitech Exquisite.

Unitech has told the apex court that it does not have money to pay back home buyers. The apex court has now ordered Unitech to produce a list of buyers who want a refund.

Home buyers say they don't want compensation but their houses from the builders. "The builders don't have the money to build or pay back", said Pankaj Srivastava, a Unitech home buyer and Citizen Journalist with CNN-News18.

51 home buyers of Unitech Exquisite in Gurgaon are fighting a battle to get their houses and . Launched in 2010, the homes are 3 years overdue. Even after six long years, not a single house is ready to move into. The hollow promise of possesion within 36 months from the date of booking has rendered the buyers furious and disgruntled. While 4 towers are part-ready, 2 are just shells.

"I don't have a roof over my head. What all am I going to do? It's a rather sad state of affairs. Unitech is just not bothered. They are taking us all for a ride." said Colonel Anil Batra who shifted from Kolkata to Gurgaon to live with his family.

"I have lost all my earning to this project. The situation is such that now I am worried about my old age, how will we survive.", said the 75 year old DP Bansal for whom the retirement looks no less than dream.

After repeated complaints, even hunger strikes, Unitech promised work would begin on April 5th, which to the buyers' disappointment turned out to be another false hope.

"We are paying our EMIs for the last 4 years now, and there is no construction work happening. We don't know when will we get our flat. We are extremely agitated but there seems to be no light at the end of the tunnel." said the disappointment buyer Amandeep.

"They delayed the property for 4 to 5 years, they have given possession of 3 towers that included mine as well but 27 towers still they have not given possesion.", said Anupam, another disgruntled buyer. There is no registry for the possesion he has got, and a huge amount is due to Noida authority by Unitech. "Its like I have just moved in because they have given a blank flat which is legally not mine" said Anupam.

What looks like a big win for Unitech home buyers who have waited endlessly for their dream homes, might not bring an end to their misery and struggle. Will buyers again be left in the lurch is the question that can hopefully be answered after the next hearing which is due on August 17.
