RTC to regularise 3K drivers, conductors

After a month-long consultation,  the AP State Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC) and the National Mazdoor Union (NMU) reached an agreement on Saturday. The RTC management agreed to 32 of 36 demands of the NMU and both the parties signed an agreement at a meeting in Bus Bhavan.

RTC managing director AK Khan said they discussed issues related to finance, administration and employees’ welfare and promotion. He said the grievances within his purview will be redressed immediately and those which are linked with the government will be forward to the government. He appealed the employees to work hard and pull out the organization from losses.

NMU state president M Nageswara Rao and general secretary Mahmood said the RTC management accepted 90 percent of their demands. The main demands that were accepted are: immediate regularisation of 3,000 contract drivers and conductors and regularisation of the remaining 17,000 contract drivers and conductors after the government’s approval.

The management also agreed to pay Rs 50 crore leave encashment of 2010 to the employees before Dasara festival and employment to the victims’ kin. It agreed to increase maternity leave.
