HYDERABAD: The Andhra Pradesh Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC) is planning to increase services on high income generating routes in the state to improve its revenues. The biggest public transportation corporation in the country, the APSRTC has been suffering from huge losses due to hike in diesel, spare parts, maintenance and illegal operation by private vehicles.
The corporation is trying to improve its revenue by increasing its services, facilities and introducing most advanced buses like Garuda and multiaxle buses to overcome the losses and it has also entered into commercial business. The APSRTC has identified as many as 656 routes which are generating more income in the state. But due to illegal operations by private vehicles it is loosing Rs 1,000 crore per annum.

Since RTC alone cannot stop them, it needs the cooperation of law enforcing agencies and the RTA. RTC officials have submitted a report to the transport department on these illegal operations and asked the RTA officials to put a check on these private operations. They also brought the issue to the notice of transport minister Botcha Satyanarayana.

APSRTC executive director Naga Raju said that they are planning to increase the services on highincome routes. All regional managers have been asked to send reports where more services are needed, he said.
