KOTTAYAM: Revenue Minister Tiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan has directed District Collectors to disburse a financial aid of Rs 1 lakh each to the relatives of those reported to have lost their lives in the current spell of monsoon in the state. Till Friday, 10 persons have become victims in the fury of rain and floods in various parts of the state.The minister told reporters that Rs 35,000 will be sanctioned for fully damaged houses and a proportionate amount will be released for the partially damaged. According to statistics, 16 houses have been fully damaged and 317 suffered partial damage owing to rain.Six flood relief camps have been opened in the state two in Alappuzha and four in the lowlying areas of Kottayam. Arrangements have been made for the supply of free ration to those in the camps. In Alappuzha, over 550 people are residing in the camps now and in Kottayam, around 100 have found a home in the relief centres. Measures have also been ensured for providing financial assistance to those who are unable to get out of their flood water encircled isolated houses, he said.The Revenue Department has chalked out measures to meet any eventuality arising out of the rain fury including in the coastal areas, the minister said. The disaster management wing under the department have also geared up to deal with any untoward happenings, he said.
