BHUBANESWAR: Even as liquor tragedy hogged headlines, the municipal administration along with veterinary and health teams wrapped up the culling exercise on Thursday. All the 29 wards, designated as alert zone, were covered.On the day, as many as 265 birds were culled while 5,414 eggs were seized and destroyed. The mopping operation will be held on Friday. However, the rapid response teams (RRTs) faced resistance at Salia Sahi. Following the incident, Municipal Commissioner Vishal Dev asked Bhubaneswar DCP Nitinjit Singh to deploy force. It was decided at the review meeting that the two RRTs will proceed to Salia Sahi only after reporting at the Nayapalli Police Station and having the necessary police force.Of 30,036 households in the slum areas, the surveillance teams have so far covered 26,941 households. Surveillance in non-slum areas will start from Friday.All the 46 Opolfed booths within the alert zone have been asked to destroy eggs, poultry products and disinfect.
