KOCHI:  The Rotary Foundation is all set to  undertake community service projects worth Rs 3 crore in this district in 2011. District Governor RI District 3201 B Jayarajan announced the major activities for this year at the Multi-District Rotary Foundation Seminar titled ‘Samarpan’ at the Mercy Business Hotel, Kochi, on Sunday. The activities announced are free heart surgery and cleft limb for children, assistance to institutions for mentally retarded children, sewing machines for women, Dialysis units for rural hospitals etc.  Jayarajan added that the Rotary Foundation is one of the largest not-for-profit corporations in the world. It has played a pivotal role in working towards a polio-free world.With a corpus fund of one billion dollars, Rotary Foundation is the world’s first and largest service organisation and has its focus also on other important areas such as literacy, health and world peace. Rotary has a long history of helping those in need and uniting people of different cultures and beliefs, he said. Former District Governor N R Gajendran (Sri Lanka) delivered the keynote address.  Rotary District Governors Dr P V Ravi and Dr Babu Chacko, RRFC S R Yogananda (Bangalore), Past District Governor Gulam A Vahanvaty (Mumbai), Rotary National Peace Award winner Pushpi Weerakoon from Colombo, Management Guru and Resource person to Rotary International V K Madhav Mohan and Shamim Rafeek spoke at the seminar. The seminar was attended by 250 delegates from Kerala and Tamil Nadu.
