Kolkata: The judicial custody of the seven accused including industrialist Ashok Todi in the Rizwanur Rahman death case, was on Tuesday extended till January 15 by a lower court, while the Calcutta High Court rejected the bail prayer of his brother, Pradip Todi.
Besides Ashok Todi, Rizwanur's father-in-law, his brother, Pradip Todi, brother-in-law Anil Sarogi, facilitator Moinuddin alias Pappu and three Kolkata Police officers, Ajoy Kumar, Sukanti Chakraborty and Krishnendu Das were present in court.
The three police officers and Sarogi are on bail, while the others are in judicial custody.
The chief judge, city sessions court, Murari Mohan Ghosh ordered all the seven accused to appear before him on January 15, 2009.
Ashok Todi's counsel submitted that inspite of a directive by a higher court his client was not getting proper medical treatment in jail.
The judge called for a report from the jail superintendent to submit a report on January 2, 2009 on his medical treatment.
He also took up the petition of the police officer Ajoy Kumar who submitted that the state government had given sanction to CBI to frame charges only under section 120B and 506 (IPC) which could not be tried in a sessions court.
The judge ordered that the petition would be heard on January 15, 2009.
In the high court, a division bench comprising Justice D P Sengupta and Justice P K Deb refused to grant the bail prayer of Pradip Todi, who allegedly played a key role in making Rizwanur to part with his wife Priyanka, Ashok Todi's daughter.
