BANGALORE: Inaugurating the World Environment Day programme organised by the YMCA Save Bangalore Movement on Thursday, noted Environmentalist Dr A N Yellappa Reddy stressed the importance of preserving greenery for the sake of the future generation.Reddy said, “We are the major agents who are poisoning the earth. I call upon all the students to revive the greenery and protect the environment for the coming generation.” Chairperson, Department of Environmental Science, Bangalore University, Dr N Nandini who was also present on the occasion, laid emphasis on the role teachers can play in imbibing the habit of preserving nature among the young students.“Besides normal trees, planting of medicinal plants, which can be used for healing various kind of wounds as well as mental illness, is equally important”, she said.Students performed a skit called, ‘If I were a butterfly I thank god for making me’.More than 80 mentally challenged students were present.
