THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A day after Chief Minister Oommen Chandy ordered a probe into the alleged hacking of e-mail of Muslims in Kerala by the State Intelligence Department, DGP Jacob Punnoose said that no such incident had taken place and termed it as totally baseless. In a statement released here on Tuesday, the DGP said that neither the government nor the police have hacked or given instruction to hack the e-mail of any individual. He termed the campaigns of this type, which may hamper the communal harmony, as unfortunate. The report that e-mails of Muslims in Kerala, including journalists, were hacked had appeared in a section of the media."The police had received 268 e-mail ids from a person who is under investigation. Hence a letter had been sent to the hi-tech cell of Police Headquarters to find out the details as it was difficult to find out the identity or the address of a person from the id. The letter was sent in order to find the sender as there was no information about the person,” the DGP said.He said that the media which published the incident deleted some names from the list which paved way for the misunderstanding and a comprehensive investigation had been ordered in this regard.
