Renew auto permit, HC directs RTO

CHENNAI: The Madras High Court has directed the Regional Transport Officer (RTO) in Perambalur to renew the permit to an auto-rickshaw owner to ply his auto as contract carriage.Disposing of a petition from Ravichandran of Perambalur, Justice D Hariparanthaman quashed the order of the RTO dated September 14, 2011, refusing to renew his permit. Petitioner’s counsel A Sirajudeen contended that in 2006, new auto permits were sanctioned and the petitioner, by borrowing money, purchased an auto and his permit was valid till Sept14, 2011.  It was meant for carrying three passengers and it was built specially for that purpose. However, when he applied for renewal, the RTO rejected his application.
