CHENNAI: It is appropriate for the governments in the State and the Centre and its undertakings to make it clear in the recruitment notification itself  that the date of birth reflected in academic certificates alone will be considered for the purpose of entering into service and it will not be allowed to be altered subsequently till retirement, even if there is a material mistake in the recorded date of birth, the Madras High Court has ruled.Justice  N Kirubakaran gave the ruling while dismissing a writ petition from Dr M Arumugam, a PG in astronomy. He was appointed as assistant professor at Kumaraperumal Farm Science Centre in Tiruchy in 1984. His date of birth, according to the SSLC book, was April 13, 1952. Later he claimed that his date of birth was April 12, 1953.
