TITLAGARH: The tension among political parties was palpable even as the second phase polling in the three-tier panchayat election began on Monday.The previous night, a BJD candidate, Bhaktaram Majhi was attacked on his way back from campaigning. He is contesting from Zone VII in Titlagarh block.While Majhi was shifted to Balangir district headquarters hospital for medical attention, the Police on Monday arrested two persons and forwarded them to court. They have been identified as former chairman of Titlagarh NAC, Subhransu Das and Makhnu Bag.Reports said Majhi was on his way home to Parthala village on Sunday night when rebel BJD candidate Pradip Sahu, Subhransu Das and their supporters stopped the former near the village and assaulted him. Majhi was rescued by locals and admitted to Titlagarh Hospital.Tension gripped the area soon after the incident with BJD supporters laying siege to Titlagarh Police Station demanding arrest of the culprits. Based on the complaint of Majhi, the Titlagarh Police have registered a case and further investigation is on. It is learnt that both Majhi and Pradip Sahu had applied for BJD ticket. However, Sahu was denied ticket which led to bad blood between the two.
