CHENNAI: As Chennai’s deadly summer sets in, the city’s inhabitants are literally feeling the heat. But there is some news to cheer if you believe in the weatherman. A “low level circulation” that has developed over parts of south Tamil Nadu and the Gulf of Mannar has increased the possibility of rain in the city in the next two days. Deputy Director General of Meteorology, Y E A Raj, told Express on Monday that the system has increased the cloud intensity near the south Tamil Nadu coast. “The system, if it persists in the same place, is likely to bring rain to parts of Chennai in the next two days,” he said. However, he warned that the situation might change if the system moved northwards, as that would increase the temperature in Chennai due to the influence of Easterlies. Raj said the city recorded a maximum temperature of 35 degrees Celsius. The radiation of the sun was increasing as it always does during this time of the year. The saving grace was that the sea breeze had been setting quite early in the city over the last few days. “This is the reason why you feel the cool winds when you venture out in the evening,” Raj said. The temperature is expected to remain normal in the coming week.
