BANGALORE: We all talk about the need for quality education and equal opportunities for the poor but few make an effort to bring about any change in this direction. But GR Krishna is a man who turned his vision into reality. After having served as a teacher for several years, in 1991, he established Saint Flowers School — for children who cannot afford expensive education of private English-medium schools. “My motto was to provide the less privileged children with equal opportunities and quality education that is at par with other children who can afford English medium education of high standard,” says Krishna, who is also the principal of the school. For those whose wages are too low to even feed their family, providing quality education to their children in fancy private schools is a far fetched dream. “The children of factory employees, labourers, clerks and small time workers who otherwise do not even have basic amenities study here without paying any donation and get quality education,” says Krishna.Saint Flowers School, located at Vidyaranyanagar, offer education of the same level that is provided in prestigious schools of the city but at a very affordable price, he adds.“Saint flowers means God’s children, I name it so because children are the gift of God and all of them despite of their economic background have equal right to get good education and have a successful career in life,” says the principal. He started the school with 57 students and three teachers but now the strength has increased to 2,500 students and 100 faculty (inclusive of teaching and non-teaching staff).“Providing quality education was our motto, we have our own campus, different labs, sports equipment and all other facilities for our students that one can find in prestigious schools, he informs.
