Congress on Monday demanded a white paper explaining the scenario of Punjab's industrial sector in the past six years.
"No industry is ready to come to Punjab out of fear of the Akalis. Let Punjab government come out in black and white on both new industrial houses that have come to Punjab to set up their industries and on the existing ones who have expanded in the state," Punjab Congress president Partap Singh Bajwa said in a release at Chandigarh.
Criticising the industrial policy of SAD-BJP government since 2007, Bajwa alleged, "Punjab has missed out in industrialisation with the advent of SAD-BJP rule. No worthwhile industrial house has ventured in Punjab." "Most of the established industrial houses in Punjab have shifted out of the state. This has happened due to emergence of multiple factors, primary being lack of infrastructure support and fear of political victimisation," he said.
"As per information, Punjab has received just about 20 per cent of proposed investment amounting to Rs 63,852.40 crore, with mega housing and industrial projects cornering the major share since 2007-08. "However, out of the total investment proposals, actual investment which have come so far in the state is about Rs 12,494.20 crore till April this year," Bajwa said.
On Sunday, a Punjab government release had refuted the recent claims made by opposition Congress that several companies including Hero Cycles and Khanna Paper Mills were in the process of shifting their manufacturing facilities outside the state.
