The Tamil Nadu and Puducherry Tourism Department hosted an event called Thoranam Aayiram at the Old Port premises. The event featured numerous food stalls, household items, and children’s toys for the public. Among the participants were Naveen and Eghil, two young entrepreneurs from Puducherry, who set up a food stall at the event. They introduced an egg dish called egg kulfi which grabbed the attention of many.

Egg Kulfi Recipe

For an egg Kulfi, two eggs are required. The kulfi is cooked using an electric oven. The process involves breaking the eggs and pouring both the egg white and yolk into the pit. The mixture is then boiled for approximately five minutes.

Oil is poured into the pan and boiled along with the eggs. To make sure the eggs are cooked properly, a kulfi stick is used. This stick is inserted where the eggs are placed. The kulfi stick measures the temperature of the egg.

Mix all the kulfi ingredients in a bowl until thoroughly combined. Then, coat the Kulfi moulds with oil. Proceed to pour the egg mixture into the moulds, filling them up to three-fourths full. To prepare them, steam in a steamer or double boiler for 10-12 minutes.

After about five minutes, the egg kulfi is automatically pushed out of the oven. It’s then served on a plate and sprinkled with chilli powder as needed. If made with only egg whites, they’re a healthy breakfast option. Next, fry them on all sides until they turn light brown. This tasty snack is perfect for tea time.

Priced at Rs 50 per kulfi, it was first introduced in Puducherry, Thoranam Aayiram festival, attracting a considerable number of guests.
